An average day

Friday, August 11

  • 9:00a – wake up, scrounge breakfast (the night before didn’t end until around 3am, as every night in this house feels like Saturday night)
  • 9:30a – begin answering long, long (and always growing) list of CouchSurfing members’ questions
  • 11:00a – morning CSC meeting
  • 11:30a – begin processing a stack of letters that need to be printed, signed, and then mailed to members worldwide
  • 12:30a – run pick up a truckload of energy drinks from a company that wants to sponsor us, return stuff at WalMart that we, well, borrowed for a camping trip
  • 2:00p – finally return after WAY more driving across town than I had bargained for
  • 2:01p – scrounge lunch
  • 2:30p – continue answering longer list of questions, process even more outgoing letters, and work with bug-tracking team to try and fix some site errors
  • 4:00p – read quick article about how to get out of cell phone contract in Wired that contains entirely too little information (and none of it helpful). this is what i call my afternoon break
  • 4:10p – back to neverending mountain of work
  • 4:35p – quick shower – first of the day
  • 4:50p – out the door to pick up a band who i’m paid to be somewhat of a roadie for and take them and their gear to their gig spot
  • 5:45p – hurry back to house to pick up another helper and then hurry to next moving gig
  • 7:00p – return to house with fast, easy cash in my pocket for dinner and a bit of relaxin’
  • 7:30p – get sucked back into work by an anxious programmer that needs more direction
  • 10:00p – off to watch band play
  • 12:00a – take said band’s gear back to their rehearsal spot
  • 12:30a – pick up two CouchSurfers on the way back
  • 1:00a – take said CSers (along with four others) to a party
  • 1:15a – realize that we’re early for the party… by a full day. we stay and hang out for a while anyway
  • 2:00a – take previously said CSers back to their place
  • 2:20a thru 4:00a – fail at trying to sleep even though my body is exhausted due as a result of abnormally high consumption of free energy drinks
