4th of July

Happy 5th of July everyone! I wasn't able to use a computer yesterday so "happy 5th" will have to do.

I spent yesterday with some great people in Bolzano through CouchSurfing that I had met up with almost three months ago. We breathed in the refreshing mountain air all afternoon at an outdoor concert of Goran Bregovic in the mountains close to Trento, Italy. I had never heard of him before I met Sandro and Rosanna but I really enjoyed it, even though today I'm completely sunburned.

Last night I watched the final game of the Eurocup football (or soccer to those of you in the States) finals between Portugal and Greece. When Greece won I was treated to a fireworks show afterall, even though it was just on TV.

Today I made it to Munich where I'll be for a few days. Here I'll be meeting up with Glenn and Silvia from GlobalFreeloaders. Soon I'll be off to visit another CouchSurfer in Heidelberg. That should bring the total of people I've stayed with to 32 (i think). I love it!

Here's a picture of me taken with the webcam here at the internet cafe.

Sora

Guess who's in Italy? Yep, ME!

I love it here. Who knows, I may never leave. If I ever do, I know where I'll probably come back to over and over again.

I haven't made it to Rome yet except when I flew in from Belgium. From there I hopped on a bus, then the metro to find I missed the last bus, and then another metro to the train where I left to meet up with my CouchSurfing host in Sora. Southern Italy is amazing! It's a little like Texas except there's a LOT more green, rolling mountains are everywhere, icy cool streams flow right from out of the ground all over the place, the language is different and beautiful, and the Italian food is (surprise) in-freakin'-credible. Ok, so the only thing it really has in common with Texas is that it's hot. But like I care. It just gives me another reason (as if I needed any reason anyway) to go swim in the lake.

I'll post pics when I can. But I don't really plan on sitting at the computer again for at least a few days, maybe longer. It's way too great outside.

Rome bound!

Tomorrow I finally make my way to Rome! I found a flight from Brussels, Belgium (where I am now) to Rome, Italy for just under $30. Isn't that just amazing???

Here's a funny parody of the Italians: http://users.pandora.be/stefdirrix/flash/italy.htm

Good Friday

Yesterday was a lot of fun! Micah and I made it to the ski slopes around 9:00 that morning and had a full day or snow. Ich esse schee (or "I ate snow") all day long. The powder was the best I've ever seen and the slopes were in perfect shape but that still didn't stop me from plowing down the mountain on my face. Nevertheless I had a great time and I'm super sore today.

So where am I today? Well, I left Garmisch-Partenkirchen (or GAP) at around noon and ended up in Bolzano, Italy. I came here because I sent out a few emails around northern Italy looking for someone to stay with and I heard back through CouchSurfing.com from Sandro and Rosanna here in Bolzano. They sounded very friendly and interested in meeting a fellow traveler. So I hopped on the train and ended up here in their home this afternoon.

We went to the theater this evening and saw a "Rockquiem" (as opposed to "Requiem") of Mozart's work. It was visually stunning and the orchestra was amazing. It was all in Italian so I didn't understand the words but I didn't have to. It was just fun to watch.

Sandro and Rosanna are wonderful hosts. They both speak great english and have already made me feel right at home. I'm glad and honored to be spending this Good Friday with them.
