Out with the boys

Before last night...

Before last night I was able to accurately say that i've never:

  • gotten stuck in an elevator
  • been in any elevator with three other guys for a full hour
  • held a guy upside down while he kicked open the emergency hatch on the ceiling
  • climbed out an escape hatch into the elevator shaft
  • urinated down the shaft while standing on top of an elevator
  • met a drug dealer on the streets that tried to sell me one pill that had cocaine, viagra, and ecstasy
  • danced on a stage in front of a few hundred people a purple hat trying to control the crowd with my hands over their heads like a bunch of marionettes (well, at least not before in Holland, anyway - does California count?)
  • intentionally insulted a member of a popular Dutch band
  • missed a bus at 6am
  • taken a cab in Holland
  • had a cabbie turn off the meter and drive me for free when he learned i didn't have enough money to get all the way home

More Amsterdam

I took loads of pictures during my stay in Amsterdam. Here are a few:

Amsterdam
Itīs hard not to find good pictures here
The Dutch are famous for their clogs
...and their bikes
...and even more bikes
...and of course their tulip bulbs
...the tulips themselves
...seemingly endless stretches of canals
...and donīt forget the "coffeeshops"
Ok, one more view of the canals
Latti was cool enough to let me stay in his flat for a few nights and then make me a "go Orange!" mix CD.

Amsterdam!

Ah, finally made it to Amsterdam. I love this city. It's such a fun place.

Friday I started my journey from Denmark. Erik and Lone drove me to Flensburg where we walked along the harbor and pedestrian streets looking for a good bite to eat. Afterwards they dropped me off at the trainstation where I didn't really want to say goodbye. I had been with them for almost two weeks and I really had a good time. I didn't want it to end!

But it was time to move along. I have a lot more to see and do and people to meet in Europe.

So I made it down to Hamburg where I met up with Tini from CouchSurfing. Tini was so cool that I wish I had planned on staying more than one night. She was also a big Pearl Jam fan as well as a music management student. Sounds fun.

I had found that the train prices to Amsterdam from Hamburg went for about 80-90€ - which I wasn't too excited about shelling out for. Instead Tini turned me on to the German buslines site. What a deal! Only 32€ with my "student discount". Shhhh, don't tell anyone. Really, I'll be carrying that university card around until they laugh at me.

On the bus I met an Aussie from Perth named Nikola (there's no way I spelled that right, I'm sure). She definitely helped make the seven hour trip go by really fast. We parted ways soon after reaching the city agreeing to meet up the next day for a day of sites. I was off to find my host for the night named Latti.

Latti turned out to be fantastic. She lives in a cool part of town with almost as much personality as herself. I just met her and I already know I won't be ready to leave her place - whenever that time happens to come.

I love Amsterdam!
