Big enough?

High Point, North Carolina - the unofficial (shhh...don't tell them that - they consider this title a very official fact) home furnishings (read: furniture) capital of the world. As long as I was in the area I naturally had to swing my couch through the area for a look around. They have to have an oversized "home furnishing" worthy of a photo op, right? It turns out that no, they don't have one - they have three.

My favorite part was the six foot long socks. Awesome.

The Carolinas

The Carolinas are one of a few places that keep drawing me in for a closer inspection. Unfortunately I've all but sped through them three or four times now in the last 9 months. With today being my last day in North Carolina (i'm in Durham, by the way) I'm lamenting on rushing through once again.

First off, I'm on a bit of a schedule. I hate having a bloody schedule, probably more than anyone you know. But I have obligations that I intend to keep so I'm pressing on. And then there was Charleston. Chucktown is one of those places I've always wanted to spend some significant time in. I had originally intended to stay there for up to a week this time around but my "plan" took an unexpected last-minute turn when I stepped onto a sailboat bound for The Bahamas a week or two ago. So my "planned" (i need a new word - one more suited for how it tends to actually work out in my life) 2 week-ish leasurely meander through the Carolinas instead turned out to be a mad dash to Virginia.

Along the way I met up with some amazing people. Thanks to Susan in Charleston for the place to lay my head for a couple of nights and Patryk for giving me a taste of Foley Beach's nightlife. In Myrtle Beach thanks to Cari (pictured to the right). It didn't work out where I could over-night in Myrtle but Cari made my few hours there more than memorable. I definitely look forward to us meeting again soon.

Wilington, NC. How can a place feel so much like home in so little time? The answer is all in the people that you meet. Big love to the Wilmington Three and all of their wonderful friends. Two nights was entirely too short of a stay in the company of Jill, Col, and Meg. I'm already plotting how to be back to the Azalea City again as soon as possible. I'll bring the wine, girls!

Today I'm at a friend's place in Durham and in a few hours to be heading out to the increasingly familiar town of Roanoke, VA. After that it's Pearl Jam in DC (i still have extra tickets if anyone is interested) on May 30 and then I'm Montreal-bound. That's the "plan", anyway...

bonus: more pics of Wilmington craziness can be found here, here, and here
