Yesterday

Yesterday was, per usual to Memphis, filled from beginning to end with 15 hours of excitement. Here's what happened with Camren, one of the guys who lives in the house I'm staying at.

New Year's Eve and Other Adventures in Memphis

Eight days and three states later I'm finally getting around to putting up some NYE pics. Enjoy!

Memphis has always been a blast. I've dropped through there three times and experienced three entirely different times but they always carried the same vibe. NYE was no different. Kellen, Richard, Camren and all of your friends - I love you guys. While I had originally intended to make it all the way to cooooold Montreal for the festivities I'm glad I ended up spending it with you all. Thanks for the good times.

Today I'm at my great friend A's house in Virginia. Her house is a place I find myself revisiting over and over again as it always feels like a second home. I suspect in a day or two I'll get back into my truck and head elsewhere but I'm yet unsure what that direction is going to be. Maybe Kentucky, maybe not. Any suggestions?

More Memphis Pics!

Did I mention that I had a great time in Memphis? Not only did we live it up all week but we took pictures of a LOT of it. Here are some of my favorites. Enjoy!

Thanks again to Kellen (www.kellenkjera.com) for the great shots! Some of the ones in the album linked above are mine but the really cool shots are Kellen's. Thanks, K!

Memphis, Part 2

This is the perfect picture to capture the awesome time I had last week. While I had planned to visit more of the midwest before heading back to warmer climates for the winter I was easily convinced by Kellen to come back through Memphis one more time. I'm certainly glad I did.

I met Kellen for the first time in June near the beginning of my motorcycle voyage. His home was the fourth of many CouchSurfing stops at a stranger's house during my North American tour. Last time we had a truly memorable time that I didn't think could be beat. I was wrong. This last time was somehow even better.

Kellen has two new roomates - Richard and Camren - who were amazing. We had the most "chill" week imaginable coupled with crazy, blown out spouts of high activity. People came and went at all hours of the day and night and no two days were the same. I'm particularly thankful that almost all of it was documented through Kellen's amazing eye and camera lens. The shot above of us playing around is juse one of many.

So thanks to everyone in Memphis for the awesome time! It was truly memorable.

The Big Couch does Memphis

Kellen Kjera in Memphis took some amazing shots of me and the couch all around the city. Here's one of my favorites. Can you guess where it was taken? I bet you can't.

Kellen shot this under the bridge linking Arkansas to Tennessee, spanning the mighty Mississippi River. We were right in the middle of it...er, under it. If you walk across the bridge you can find an unlocked manhole cover at the halfway point. Open this up, climb down the ladder and you'll find yourself on a catwalk with an amazing view. While it was 3am Kellen somehow managed make it look like the sky was lit up behind us as if Armageddon was rolling in. Amazing. Thanks to Lucy and Jill for sharing their great spot with us.

I have lots of pictures and I'll share some more soon!

Bike Night on Beal Str.

Kellen and I made it back out to Beal Street in Memphis last night just in time for Bike Night. As usual the streets were closed off to cars but were packed with motorcycle after motorcycle. The vast majority of these bikes weren't just ordinary motorcycles that you might find crammed in your friend's garage under a layer of dust. Most of these cost more than any vehicle I've ever owned. These guys took their motorcycles seriously. My humble bike definitely wouldn't have fit in around that croud.

We were able to get some amazing shots of the Big Red Couch out and about on Beal. The one above is one I took with my camera. Kellen got a lot more and better shots with his. Hopefully I'll be able to share some before the weekend is out.

Beal Street Blues

jim-kellen-beal.jpg

Here's me and Kellen on Beal Street in front of Blues City Cafe. Someone from B.B. King's resturant across the street came over, handed me the menu to hold for "promotional purposes" and then snapped the pic of me and my CouchSurfing host Kellen. We had an awesome time roaming around today with the Big Red Couch and got some awesome pics.

Where did we go? Check back tomorrow and see even better pictures of our adventures.
